Event Report - Narooma Rally

With Narooma likely to be our last event for the year, we were out for a great time without any damage or incidents.

I had not experienced a Narooma rally before but there was much talk of it being a great event! It is now right up there with my favorites!

All of the stages were fantastic, roads were smooth, road book consistent and the views spectacular for those long 4km calls! Stage 3 in particular was an absolute cracker! No fear of under body damage with roads like these!

We had an awesome yet relatively uneventful rally which was fortunate. There was an awareness amongst the cars up front that we were all jostling for top 5 positions but there was a really fun sense of competitive spirit rather than nasty fierce sheep-station competition. Thanks very much to those crews around us for a fun day in the forest.

A huge thanks to:
  • Jon for his consistent driving on the day ( Carolyn for a great job navigating (JW).);
  • Michael Taylor Sr, our invaluable, dedicated and reliable service crew;
  • Michael Taylor Jr, Adrian Dudok and all of their support team for organizing a top event! It was FUN, just how rallying should be!;
  • Cheryl and all of the volunteers out there. You all did an amazing job, everything ran smoothly and on time;
  • The locals at Narooma who provided us with a fabulous set of roads and a spotless service park;
  • The sponsors, supporters and local surf club who all make the day complete.

Rally of the Bay

Looking forward to next weekend - a long weekend and the Rally of the Bay - always a great event. A weekend down the coast is never a bad thing, and when it involves throwing a WRX around some fantastic dirt roads - a great way for the nav to celebrate her birthday! If you aren't competing or servicing, why don't you volunteer as an official - a personal spectator point is a fantastic way to watch the rally.

Coming events

The Reliance Rotary Rally Team are looking forward to getting out in the forest again, with 2 events coming up at the South Coast. Mini'Dulla is on the 21st of September (details here) and the rescheduled Rally of the Bay is a month later on the 19th of October (details here).

Targa Adelaide success

Reliance Rotary customer Bruce Power had a very successful Targa Adelaide taking 3rd Classic Outright and 2nd Late Classic Handicap in his 13B powered 1979 Mazda RX7. Bruce drove extremely well under trying weather conditions with Andrew Buerckner, a rookie to Tarmac style events, navigating for him. They had a relatively trouble free run - much to the relief of their service crew. A fantastic result that makes the hard work by many to get the car ready all worthwhile.

Provisional results (from Targa News - Hoff wins two classic titles).

CLASSIC OUTRIGHT
1. Simon Hoff / Peter Hoff, 1975 Ford Escort RS2000, +2m02s
2. Peter Ullrich / Sari Ullrich, 1963 Jensen CV8, +3m43s
3. Bruce Power / Andrew Buerckner, 1979 Mazda RX7, +5m28s
4. Jai Raymond / Jen Mathwin-Raymond, 1979 Rover SD1, +5m40s
5. Roger Lomman / Annie Bainbridge, 1972 Datsun 240Z, +6m36s

LATE CLASSIC HANDICAP
1. Simon Hoff / Peter Hoff, 1975 Ford Escort RS2000
2. Bruce Power / Andrew Buerckner, 1979 Mazda RX7, +1m45s
3. Robert Gambino / Mary Hughes, 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB, +3m07s

SDMA Hillclimb Feb 2013

The first SDMA Hillclimb event of the year was held last Sunday, with great results for Reliance customer cars despite the very mixed weather. The newly revised 13BT powered Lancer of John Templeton took out 2nd place outright with JW at the wheel with a blistering 46.99 - obviously the 5 link worked well. More importantly John Templeton was very pleased with how the car now handles and gets the power down.

The Team Aardvark RX7 managed one good run which netted 5th outright and first in Type 3 2001-3000cc with a 48.24 (not too far off last years PB of 48.08).

A great day - even with the wet weather.

Tyrie Starrs put some photos from the event up

Next event is the HeartKids Hillclimb on the 24th of March - a 2 lap event raising money for HeartKids - looking forward to it as it is a great event and a very worthy cause.

National Capital Rally

The National Capital Rally is on this weekend - http://nationalcapitalrally.com.au/. The Reliance Rotary Rally Team are doing Car Zero duties in the WRX. So if you are looking for Jon at Reliance - you may have to wait until next week.

And I'm not volunteering to wash the WRX after the event...
